WPRF: Information Minister Hosts Global Alliance President, Assures FG's Support
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris says the Federal Government is willing to partner with the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) to ensure the forthcoming World Public Relations Forum (WPRF) records huge success.
Idris, a Fellow of the Institute stated this in Abuja on Thursday when he received in audience a delegation led by the President and CEO, Global Alliance, Prof. Justin Green who is in Nigeria to ascertain the level of preparation ahead of the 15th —22nd November event expected to have over 3,000 delegates from across 126 countries.
Idris said preparations for the forum were already underway, assuring the organisers, the Global Alliance and the host Institute, the NIPR that the government would provide the necessary support to ensure a successful event that would showcase Nigeria’s capacity, hospitality and leadership on the continent.
“Nothing will be left undone to ensure the successful hosting of the World Public Relations Forum here in November. We are all getting prepared, and the expectation will be surpassed,” the Minister said.
In his remarks, Prof. Green expressed gratitude to the Minister and the Federal Government for their commitment to the Forum, saying the support had been instrumental to Nigeria’s successful hosting of the event, which is coming to the West African sub-region for the first time. It will hold alongside the 37th conference of the African Public Relations Association (APRA).
According to Prof. Green, this is the first time major international organisations, including the United Nations, the World Bank, the European Commission, Association of South East Asia Nations (ASEAN), the African Union, Interpol, World Customs Organisation and others are indicating interest to participate in WPRF.
President of NIPR, Dr. Ike Neliaku commended the Federal Government for its support that led to Nigeria securing the hosting right despite opposition at the international stage.
He added that apart from marking the unveiling of the first sector-based University of Public Relations and Leadership (UPRL), the WPRF will provide a new framework for responsible communication and the future of the public relations profession through what has been termed, the “Abuja Declaration”.
The Minister, joined by Prof. Green also visited the WPRF Secretariat located at the 7th floor of Radio House, where he assured regular visit to motivate the staff of the Secretariat.
Prof. Green thereafter toured the construction site of The Public Relations Place, one of the legacy projects expected to be unveiled during the global event.
