NIPR Hails Nigeria Customs’ Reputation Management Guide as Benchmark for Public Institutions

Abuja, August 5, 2025 — The President of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Ike Neliaku, has commended the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) for setting a national standard in ethics and professionalism with the launch of its Reputation Management Guide.

Speaking at the unveiling in Abuja, represented by NIPR Vice President, Professor Emmanuel Dandaura—Neliaku described the initiative as proof that Customs treats reputation as a strategic asset essential for public trust and national development.

“This is not a symbolic gesture,” he said. “It shows Customs is deliberately embedding reputation management into its operational culture. It is a model for other public institutions.”

He praised Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, as an embodiment of professional integrity, citing his discipline, dedication, and reform-minded leadership. Neliaku also revealed that a recent NIPR nationwide perception survey ranked the NCS highly in discharging its core mandates, signalling that ongoing reforms are resonating with the public.

In his remarks, CGC Adeniyi called the launch a “strategic milestone” in Customs’ transformation agenda, aimed at reorienting officers on values, behaviours, and standards that build trust and transparency.

“We want to go beyond our traditional mandate,” he declared. “This guide is an opportunity for every Customs officer to be part of a project that rewrites the history of our Service.”

He highlighted recent achievements, including a 92% revenue increase in 2024 and strengthened efforts to combat illicit trade, improve trade facilitation, and contribute to national security.

The guide aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, with the NCS investing in education, healthcare, water access, and the creative economy in host communities.

The event was attended by senior Customs officials, communication experts, and public relations practitioners, marking another step in the Service’s modernisation and reform drive.
